The Inter-Galactic Telemetry Beacon is a special device that is fitted in a special slot and is required to navigate through the Expanse Galaxy. The need for this device (and the subsequent design) came about following the maiden voyage of the GFS Venture into the Expanse through a Wormhole.
The device is linked to the AI of the ship through a neural interface, and ensures the AI can navigate without incident. It should be noted, that the ITB has no Offensive, or Defensive capabilities, it simply enables the AI to operate efficiently in uncharted space.
